Survivor All Season Rankings after Watching for the First Time

Now that I have finished all 40 seasons of Survivor, I think it is time I update my Season Rankings. For some background on my experience, here is a brief intro.
I watched all the seasons in order for the first time. I started this back in lockdown and have been going strong on it since and just finished season 40 tonight. I watched the first few seasons live back in when they first aired but most seasons I am seeing for the first time. My opinions at times I think differ from some of the popular thoughts out there. Feel Free to rip into them if you wish.
  1. Survivor 40 Winners at War: I did not think a season could top the first but this one did. The quality of game play, the alliance development and then voting those people out at the right time was great TV. Tony played pretty much a flawless game. I would love to see another winners season. Seeing how much this game means to the players too was incredible. Amazing season. Favorite Players: Tony, Sophie, Denise, Jeremey, Ben, Tyson, Yul
  2. Survivor 1 Borneo: This is the best season because it is the first. Before people started coming up with elaborate strategies, eliminating threats, hidden immunity idols. It was a perfect season. Some of my favorite characters on the season are Rudy, Sue, Richard Hatch, Gervase.
  3. Survivor 37 David vs Goliath: The seasons in the 30s struggled. This season saved it. This was an incredible season from tribe depth. I just wish Gabby would stop crying. How does she get through life? There was so much good game play this season. So much back and forth, good advantage moves. Love this season so much. I watched it in just a few days. I could not stop. Favorite players: Nick, Mike, Alison, Davie, Christian, Alec, John
  4. Survivor 10 Palau: I loved the physical domination of this season. Seeing a group just utterly decimate the other tribe, it was amazing. And then the most physically dominating player to be older compared to some of the physically fit players? Love it. Tom Westman was perfect. I don't know how anyone can dislike him. Favorite players: Tom, Stephenie, Coby, Bobby John, Angie
  5. Survivor 7: Pearl Islands: The season that gave us Rupert. Just a beast. Guy was truly a survivor. Plus we have Johnny Fairplay and then a really well played game by Sandra. I don't really like her but she played well. This was a really great season despite the boy scout master going to the end. Take that part out and this season could have been the best. Favorite Players: Rupert, Johnny Fairplay, Savage
  6. Survivor 28 Cagayan: Tony was a savage on this season. All over the place, finding idols, convincing people of just absurd things. Guy was incredible. Plus I thought the tribe split was interesting, didn't love it, but it was interesting. I also really liked the Spencer. He is another player I love and it near the top of my list. He was smart and physical. If it was not for Tony I think he could have ran that season. Also, this season had maybe my two favorite female players ever in Jefra and Tasha. Top Players: Tony, Spencer, Woo, Tasha, Jefra, Jeremiah, LJ
  7. Survivor 25 Phillipines: What an exciting season with some great story lines. I loved seeing Malcom and Denise overcome a lot and keep surviving. I also like the three returning players that had prior injuries. The season was exciting throughout for me and did not have any down points. I also really liked Skupin (sad to see that he was actually a terrible person) Favorite players: Malcom, Denise, Skupin, Penner, Carter, Jeff Kent, Angie
  8. Survivor 19 Samoa: Russell. Enough said. Played a nearly perfect game, just had a jury that didn't want to see him win because he was simply better than them. People on here complain about the edit but I loved it. Russell is a fighter. It is a shame he did not win this season. I also really enjoyed the Tribe Leader aspect and thought it was just an overall entertaining season. Favorite Players: Russell, Monica, Mick, Russell Swan, Liz
  9. Survivor 2 Australian Outback: An early season played without some of the crazy twists you see later on. I loved how much of a beast Michael was before he was evacuated and him catching the pig! True Survivor. Most of the people that made the merge were great! Favorite Players: Colby, Tina, Keith, Elizabeth, Rodger, Michael.
  10. Survivor 18 Tocantins: This season had such big personalities and the good guy won! I really enjoyed Coach's craziness, Tyson's dick personality and the tight alliance that JT and Stephen had. The two of them really played the game well together. I would have like to see the secret alliance with Brendan work but still a really good season. I also wish Jerry had not become sick. I thought he could have gone far. Favorite players: JT, Tyson, Stephen, Taj, Brendan, Coach, Jerry.
  11. Survivor 20 Heroes vs Villains- I really enjoyed the returning players in this season as compared to some other seasons with returning players. I really enjoy Russell and his ability to just run most of the game. It was also interesting to see the effect of time on some players (Colby & Tom) and how the castaways just did not trust certain people based on previous seasons. Some people I had previously liked, I didn't this season: James. I think the only thing keeping this from being higher is some of the egos and the players knowing each other too well. Favorite Season players: Russell, Colby, Rupert
  12. Survivor 26 Caramoan: This season ranks high for me for pretty much one reason: Cochran. I love him. One of my all time favorite players. So I was happy to see him win. But there were some really cringey moment and terrible people that keep this from being higher. I also really enjoyed the three guys teaming up and knocking out the leader of Stealth-R-Us. He makes me question how we allow people to have any sort of government clearance. Regardless, what a well played season by Cochran. Favorite Players: Cochran, Erik, Malcolm, Reynold, Brenda, Matt
  13. Survivor 31 Cambodia: I thought this was a really strong season. Though it was interesting some of the people that got voted back in. I was surprised by (Wentworth, Varner and Kimmy). Though I think Wentworth and Kimmy played surprising better games than I thought. Overall, I thought the Jeremy story was great. I would have loved to see Spencer get some votes and I think his game is severely underrated that season by the other players. Favorite Players: Spencer, Jeremy, Tasha, Keith, Savage
  14. Survivor 3 Africa: An early season that I think was really entertaining. The tribe swap early that ruined the young alliance was exciting. Teresa outlasting all the much younger people in the arm hold endurance challenge was a great moment. Ethan was easy to root for winning as well. Favorite players: Ethan, Teresa, Tom, Lex, Frank.
  15. Survivor 6 The Amazon: The men vs woman original split worked really well here and then the contestants went away from those gender alliances and that made it even better. Rob was a mastermind but could not pull it out. This also gave us the memorable moment of the girls getting naked for food. I also really liked Matthew. I wish he had won. If he had, I probably would have rated this higher. Favorite players: Rob, Matthew, Heidi
  16. Survivor 17 Gabon: I really liked Gabon. I thought it seemed like someone was going to win and then things flipped. Sugar was all over the place and I loved it. I thought Bob was a great winner and played a very good game. I liked the domination of the one tribe and then their collapse with the swap. I originally thought I would like Kenny but by the end I thought he sucked. Corinne was annoying and I didn't like Randy. Ace and Dan I would have liked to see make the merge. Favorite Players: Bob, Sugar, Matty, Dan, Ace
  17. Survivor 21 Nicaragua: I at times like this season a lot. Other times hated it. NaOnka was one of the worst humans ever. Regardless of the edit, the things she did were awful. I thought Fabio was great. I really enjoyed his semi-under the radaalways a threat style, dumb kid attitude. Then he turns it on physically. Loved him. Chase Rice is an idiot and I thought Sash was an asshole. Then you have Shannon, yikes. The two girls quitting and the trash people on this season kept it from being higher but I enjoyed the game play from a lot of people. Favorite players: Fabio, Holly, Marty, Jimmy T
  18. Survivor 15 China: This was an interesting season. At times I loved it (James throwing people off the platform), others I found it insufferable (anything with Courtney). Todd schemed his way to the finals and did a great job of it. I was not a huge fan of the tribe swap in this season though and I think that's why I don't have it higher. Favorite players: Todd, James, Aaron, Erik, Frosti
  19. Survivor 30 Worlds Apart: This season again was saved by the winner. So many terrible people, but thank god for Mike. Guy dominated despite always being on the outs. The stereotypes that were played up here were hilarious too. Another decent but not great season. Favorite players: Mike, Carolyn, Kelly
  20. Survivor 29 San Juan Del Sur: The only reason I think I liked this season where I did was because I sort of know Jon Misch (he went to my high school, graduated 4 year before me so I only knew him from summer working out in the gym). Many of the players annoyed me, their family emotions were too involved for them at times. I just was not a huge fan of Missy, Natalie and Baylor. They were annoying and entitled in my opinion. Favorite Players: Jon, Keith, Reed, Josh,
  21. Survivor 12 Panama: The initial age and gender division was interesting. I wish they would have kept it going longer. The tight alliance of Casaya was good to see as well. Then we have Terry physically dominating the game. Loved that. Cirie's rise and growth during the game was really cool to watch. You could see how she was learning the strategy as she went along. Shows how much luck there is to getting through that first couple votes for her. I just wish Aras had not won. Didn't like the guy at all. Favorite Players: Shane, Cirie, Terry, Bruce, Austin.
  22. Survivor 13 Cook Islands: This was an interesting season. The racial division could have been great if they kept it going. However, the PC police ended that. Ozzie and Yul dominated the game from different perspectives. You could see Yul using the management consulting textbook strategies through his decisions. I would have liked to see Nate go further and Penner. The three young white tribe members were so annoying near the end. Favorite players: Yul, Ozzy, Penner, Cao Boi, Nate, Sundra.
  23. Survivor Edge of Extinction: I am torn on this season. I either love the twist or hate it. I really am not sure. Regardless, it made for some good tv, provided more character development and made for a really solid season. I thought Chris played his return perfectly. I don't think Gavin deserved any votes at the end. Something about him bothered me the whole time. If Wardog was good at challenges, I think I would have loved him. Favorite players: Chris, Devens, Victoria, David.
  24. Survivor 27 Blood vs Water: This season is an interesting concept but it was just annoying. A lot of the family members sucked at the game. There were very few of them that I enjoyed. It was a pretty clear winner from early on. Season was set up for a Tyson win. I didn't hate it though but didn't love it. Favorite Players: Tyson, Caleb, Gervase, Hayden
  25. Survivor 8 All Stars: I think this season is overrated by most. It was ok, but how could no one see that Rob was controlling this? These were All-Stars? I thought it was a poorly played game especially by Lex and Jenna. Dumb moves. Jenna should have known she had no chance without Rupert making it. Favorite players: Rupert, Colby, Shii Ann, Kathy
  26. Season 36 Ghost Island: The concept of this I felt was so forced. It seemed over the top a lot of the time. I did think the strong cast kept it interesting though. I liked the Dom vs Chris conflict. Chris is great TV. I liked how Dom and Wendell though really controlled the game. Either could have won. Favorite players: Wendell, Dom, Chris, Donathan, Desiree
  27. Survivor 35 Heroes vs Healers vs Hustlers: I am not sure where they come up with some of these original tribal splits for the show. A strange grouping but it ended up being a pretty good season. I liked a lot how Ben was in control, then was on the bottom and had to fight his way to stay on. I thought he took the game into his own hands and won. Plus he had a great story. I thought Ryan played a better season than the final jury vote let on too. Some really dumb players too (JP and Lauren) Favorite Players: Ben, Chrissy, Ryan, Devon,.
  28. Survivor 5 Thailand: I don't think this season was as bad as some say. I actually like Brian. He controlled the game well physically and strategically. The young tribe was pretty terrible but I loved when Clay got choked. But still it was slow at times so I get why people don't like it as much. Just I didn't hate it as much as most. Favorite Players: Brian, Penny
  29. Survivor 9 Vanuatu: This season started off terrible. The old guys were so dumb and eliminated the tribes biggest strengths (physical strength) and almost were completely eliminated if it was not for Chris. The guy was very good post merge and controlled the game. The women were just so much smarter than every man this season, but Chris. Favorite players: Chris, Twila, Eliza, Julie, Brady
  30. Survivor 23 South Pacific: Too much god for me here. Brandon Hantz needs therapy. Lots of it. Ozzy becomes more insufferable more seasons he is on and I use to like him. I still enjoy Coach but his followers were weird. Cochran was the saving grace of the season for me and the only reason it is not lower. Sophie played a good game I thought though. Just not a great season from an enjoyment standpoint. Favorite Players: Coach, Cochran, Dawn.
  31. Survivor 11 Guatemala: This season was not bad. But it was not good. It was just average. It was a decent idea to bring back Bobby Jon and Stephenie but the rest of the cast struggled to be interesting. I do like that the immunity necklace was introduced and could only be used before votes were cast. I think that is how it should be, but that would prevent a lot of twists in seasons that came after. Favorite Players: Stephenie, Rafe, Gary, Brandon
  32. Survivor 14: Fiji Earl played a great game. He just didn't have much too him from a personality standpoint. I do think he is the type of player that could win multiple times if he played again. Yau-Man was such a quirky dude and helped keep the season going. The four horseman alliance was done in by maybe one of the most idiotic overall performances in Dreamz. Overall there were some characters here that were hard to watch (Lisi, Rocky). Favorite Players: Yau-Man, Mookie.
  33. Survivor 33: Millennials vs Gen X: Could they have picked a bigger group of the worst a generation has for millennials? They hit all the bad stereotypes. I like the concept but man were the millennials tough to watch as one myself. I really don't understand why Adam won in the end. It felt like he was running with his head cut off the whole time. I did not see the strong game play others did. I actually thought he had the worst case of the three going into the final tribal. Favorite players: Ken, Hannah, David, Brett, Chris
  34. Survivor 34 Game Changers: What a bizarre group of people to call game changers. Felt like a cast of second tier players. It had its moments and I thought Sarah really developed from her first game, but a lot of the better players from previous seasons were just voted out right away because the others were scared. Like why is Zeke considered this great strategic player? He is terrible at the game. I don't understand how Varner got to be on a third time. Or Hali again? Just weird casting. Favorite Players: Malcolm, Andrea, Troyzan, Tai, Brad, Sarah
  35. Survivor 32 Kaoh Rong: This season was hard to watch at times. The verbal abuse Alecia received was tough and I am usually a person that believes people should toughen up but man were Jason and Scott just pieces of garbage. The really good characters saved the season though. In the end, the jury voted for against people in my opinion than for someone which is not my favorite part of the game. One of the strongest female casts we have seen though. Favorite Players: Tai, Aubry, Cydney, Debbie
  36. Survivor 4 Marquesas: This season had some good characters which is surprising for how boring it was. The winner was just under the radar the whole time and I had wished she had gone home much earlier. Sean sucked and complained the whole time. I hate the rock pull too. Favorite Players: Paschal, Kathy, Hunter
  37. Survivor 24 One World: Some more terrible humans on this season, plus the dumbest moves by the men. Complete idiots. The women played them well but should never have been there. The men giving up immunity was hard to watch and you just knew they were done. I did enjoy a few of the characters on the show though and hope to see them again. Favorite players: Troyzan, Sabrina, Jonas
  38. Survivor 16 Micronesia: This season made me angry the whole time. The fans were star struck. They eliminated all the physical threats and Jeff fell in love with the term blindside. I know a lot of people like this season but I did not at all. I use to like Cirie in her first season but not here. The best players were eliminated for being threats by weaker players. There were just more weak players together. Favorite Players: Yau-Man, Joel, Penner, Eliza, Ozzy, Erik, Jason,
  39. Survivor 22 Redemption Island: I thought I could not hate a season more than Micronesia but I was wrong. A complete setup season. Idiots on the one tribe throwing the challenge and and complete followers on the other. Just terrible. This season was just a Let's get Rob a win. My favorite player was Stephanie but she made the wrong numbers alliance with Russell. I think if she was able to get to the merge she could have done something. Also, the whole bible thing was too much for me. Favorite Players: Grant, Ralph, Stephanie
  40. Survivor 39 Island of the Idols: They should have renamed this season Island of the Social Justice Warriors. Almost ruined the entire show for me how much this was forced down throats. It was a hard season to watch. The god worship of Rob and Sandra didn't help. Rob I think is such an overrated player in Survivor history. Just not a good season. Favorite Players: Dean, Tommy, Lauren

Ranking the first 20 seasons after re-watching

  1. Marquesas- Overall, a very dull cast. Only a few stand outs. While there's some to appreciate, such as Vecepia's underrated game, Sean's funny personality and Rotu Four being overthrown, the cast and plotline overall were just dull. Least engaging season to me among the first 20.
  2. Thailand- Some ugly moments such as Ted and Ghandia, and Clay being choked. The cast itself, while more interesting than Marquesas, wasn't good as a whole. There are some interesting moments such as Robb (at times), Brian's game, the fake merge, Shi Ann, and the older and underdog Chuay Gahn tribe prevailing over the younger Sook Jai tribe. Despite some of the good moments which were better than Marquesas, the ugly moments and cast leave this season at 19.
  3. Gabon- This was a season of characters. Definitely different compared to most of the seasons in the first 20. However, there were only a few characters enjoyed. This season had its ups and downs. The worst part was the last 1/4th, which was just boring. We had one of the most boring final 5's and 4's, and arguably the worst final 3. However, since there were no ugly moments aired, I'll leave this at 18.
17- Another season featuring characters. Shane and Cirie were the best that season. Without them, this season may have been in the bottom. Unfortunately, like Gabon, there are only a few characters I could enjoy, and the season went up and down at times. This was more entertaining than Gabon, but overall boring.
  1. Palau- I actually liked this season. Watching Ulong decimate was entertaining. Steph and Bobby John were great underdogs. It is ranked at 16 because it was pretty much a lopsided domination. There was nothing to get in the way of Tom's control. Wish there was at the very least a switch to shake things up. While this was good, there was really a missed opportunity to shake things up.
  2. Guatemala- Probably the toughest location ever. This is one of the seasons that show how real Survivor is. A lot of fun characters. A lot of enjoyable moments such as the very first challenge, Bobby John vs Jamie, introduction to idols, and Danni eating up the last 1/4th of the game. I just think the other 14 ahead of this were more engaging.
  3. Vanuatu- Second Women's vs Men's season. Fun characters in paranoid Eliza, Twila, Ami, and Chris etc. Fun moments in paranoid Eliza, Twila, all women's alliance, and Chris managing to win against 6 women. The most fun moments were Chris managing to win while going up against 6 women. I also loved the location. Good season, but I find the 13 ahead of this to be more entertaining.
  4. Fiji- Definitely a better season than people give credit for. Good characters in Earl, Yau, Dreamz, Mookie, Michelle, Stacy, Rocky, and Boo. Top tier winner and game in Earl. However, there were bad moments such as Haves vs haves not (One of the worst and most unfair twists), the truck deal and very angry jury. These bad moments leave this at 13.
  5. Australian Outback- Good characters in Colby, Jerri, Tina, Roger, Keith, and Alicia. Fun moments in finger wagging, Skupin falling into the fire, Jerri vs Keith, and just Jerri. Skupin falling into the fire and Jerri's arc are top tier moments. However, this season is just no where near comparable to the first season. While this was good, the first season completely outshines this. Also, the other seasons are more entertaining.
11- All Stars- Better season than people give this credit for. Really good cast. Fun characters in Rob, Big Tom, Rupert, Alicia, Sue and Shi Ann etc. Rob's game was really fun to watch. Fun moments in Rob's game, Big Tom being hilarious, and Hatch vs the small shark etc. However, there were ugly moments, such as Rich and Sue, Rob's betrayal to Lex, and a very bitter jury. The ugly moments leave this at 11.
  1. Cook Islands- One of the most diverse casts ever, which is a big reason I rank it here. Future legends and returning players in Yul, Parv, Candice, Ozzy and Penner. This season produced 4 legends, which is great. Very fun moments in Yul's. Penner being the best narrator, and Aitu Four overcoming the disadvantage. However, it's down at 10 mainly because the tribes were divided by race. They could have done a much better job with this. Did not like that they divided tribes based on race. Other reasons are the super idol, and alleged rigging for the Aitu.
  2. Samoa- Russell heavy season. Russell was golden television and one of the biggest Game Changers ever. He really changed he game in strategy and idols. He is massive in the evolution of strategy. Most of the greatest moments involve Russell. Another top tier moment that wasn't just Russell, was Foa Foa Four overcoming the disadvantage was very entertaining. However, I can't rank this higher because the season was centered around 1 player.
  3. Amazon- Biggest reason is because of Rob. He really influenced the game with his flip flopping strategy. One of the early game changers. His confessionals were just hilarious. Other than Rob, you had, Deena, Heidi, Christy, and crazy Matt. Crazy Matt was hilarious. Very fun season, but think the other 7 were more entertaining.
  4. Africa- The best and my favorite location. One of the toughest locations as well. We really got to explore Africa. One of the most focused locations. Great characters in Lex, Big Tom, Ethan, Clarence, T-Bird, and Kelly. Fun moments in Clarence and the beans, Big Tom, and paranoid Lex etc. Very fun season, but the other 6 to me were just better.
  5. Toc- Very good mix of characters and strategy. Great characters in Coach, Tyson, JT, Fishbach, Sierra, Debbie and Taj. Great moments in Coach and Tyson, Coach's Amazon story, Timbira imploding post merge, an JT and Fishbach running the post merge. Coach and Tyson 1.0 are top tier characters. Great moments, but not enough to be top 5.
  6. China- Very fun cast. Fun characters in Todd, Amanda, Courtney, James and Jean Robert. So many funs moments, such as Todd's entertaining game, Courtney's hilarious confessionals and lines, Creepy and villainous Jean Robert was hilarious, James hilarious lines, and James going home with 2 idols. A lot of good character and game moments. However, the top 4 just had more top tier and iconic moments.
  7. Micronesia- Great cast overall. The returnees were great. Among the newbies, standouts were Nat B, Jason and Erik. The season is top tier becuase of Black Widow. They killed the second half. It was so fun watching them destroy the guys. The best moment that season and possibly all time was Cirie conning Erik into giving up his necklace. I loved watching Cirie play. Cirie played the best non winning game ever. Nat B is just so underrated. Nat B was robbed of airtime and second chance. Amazing season overall, but the top 3 had better moments in my eyes.
  8. Borneo- The first ever season. Nobody knew what they were getting themselves into. The players, production, and Jeff were all clueless. However, they all proved to be amazing. Everything was so unique. The editing, character moments and strategy were all so unique. Great characters in Hatch, Rudy, Sue, Sean, Colleen and Greg etc. Mot notable top tier moments are Gretchen's blindside, and the alliance started by Hatch. Top 3 worthy for being the most unique season ever. However, the top 2 just have better moments.
  9. Heroes Vs Villains- Greatest cat ever, which is almost perfect. Starting off with a physical challenge is the second best start to a season. Second best premiere ever. Second best theme in Heroes Vs villains. A lot of fun moments, such as the opening, the cast and theme, Rob vs Russell, JT's and Tyson's blindsides and Cirie blindside etc. The tribals where Tyson and JT went are some of the best tribals in the first 20 seasons. So many top tier moments. All this makes this top 2 worthy. However, I feel the #1 edges it out in character moments, strategy, and big moments.
  10. Pearl Islands- The season starting without the players knowledge was just phenomenal. It gets even better when they have to jump off the boat (ship wrecked) and going to a village to get supplies. The greatest start to a season and premiere. The pirate theme is the greatest theme ever. Great and top tier characters in Rupert, Fairplay and Sandra. Good characters in Burton, Lilian, Osten, and Darrah. Top tier moments, such as the season starting without the players knowledge, the players being ship wrecked at the start, "I can get loud", who the hell voted for me", Fairplay's entertaining personality and game, and the dead grandma lie etc. The Dead Grandma lie is arguably the greatest lie and one of the best moments ever. As much as I dislike the outcast twits, the season still proved to be phenomenal with it around. Perfect mix of strategy, character, and shocking and crazy moments. All this makes Pearl Islands the greatest and my personal favorite season ever.

Biggest villain of each season part 2/4

I'm very happy about the positive reception to my first post, so here is part 2! in my opinion, the golden age of survivor villains without a doubt, these aren't necessarily the biggest villains of each season. They are the ones I think are most intriguing to talk about and analyze.
Guatemala: Jamie Newton
Runner up: Stephanie Lagrossa
I honestly wish I could write about both these but I'd rather not cop out and stick to my guns in saying that although Stephanie was a bigger part of the story, Jamie Newton is an island, his own category of survivor contestant who is utterly unique in nature. Jamie begins the story as a competitor and only really knowing what competing meant to him. He was very physical and was coming from a more self-centered perspective in terms of being less considerate than others at times. This kind of behavior was ignored and passively justified by the people he was with because all they saw looking into it was a guy giving his all and winning challenges for the team. They could tell his passion was a part of why his performance was so strong, and if they were to try and tone it down it could result in a challenge loss. Everything then shifted at the merge where the opposite was true. Jamie went through a bout of ego death, as the behavior he had on display at the merge feast was called out despite not being any different than in the first half of the game.
Jamie is so interesting because his two sides are so dissonant from one another that he noticeably goes through the death of his ego during his time in the game. He wants to be a peace loving, friendly guy who everyone likes and he seeks the approval of others. He clearly becomes shameful of his behavior, realizing the error of his ways. One of the questions that is so memorable is Jamie's exact motivation in giving up his reward. Was he just playing the game and trying to jockey for power, or was he genuinely remorseful and trying to correct his ways? It's most likely a combination of both, but the answer is entirely left to Jamie, and he feels misunderstood. He feels isolated and like no one really understands him, almost as if his suffering is invisible. On the surface, he's a powerful player in a majority alliance without a care in the world. But under the surface he's insecure, he wants people to see that nice side of him and his villainy comes from his feeling that others don't understand him.
One of the most chilling moments was Jamie's actual elimination. He of course isn't happy about his ouster, but after a moment of genuinely grappling with his fate, he puts on a smile. He congratulates everyone on the move, and as Jamie turns away from the group, the smile leaves his face. He put up a front for the other players and tried to be understanding despite being hurt because he didn't want others to experience the lack of understanding he felt he had been through.
Guatemala is full of moments and details like this which is what makes it such a great season.
Panama: Shane Powers
Shane is like the joker of survivor villains. he's funny, bombastic, scary as hell when he's serious, and most importantly Shane is absolutely off his rocker. Shane is an entity who is naturally, subconsciously, wildly in contrast with whatever the general mood/vibe of those around him is. On the old man tribe he tried to emphasize his youth, acting younger than the others. He had strangely rational moments on his tribe when everyone was crazy. And primarily, he was completely insane when everyone else was rational. Shane was in control most of the game, until he was voted out where he talks about his chocolate icecream bar. It's such a great exit because it's the last thing I'd expect him to say walking out. Maybe some insane ramblings, or dejected sadness would have been expected but instead he taunted the others that he'd have an icecream bar and they wouldn't. Comedic villainy at its finest.
Cook islands: Candice Cody
runner up: Jonathan Penner
This is another case of me desperately wanting to talk about both players, but Candice was absolutely an antagonist during her time on Cook islands. She was in direct opposition to the Aitu 4, the heroes of the story, and her interactions with the aitu 4 and with Jonathan are absolutely what make her so interesting. Candice becomes visible when she mutinies at the swap, which 100% caused Jonathan to mutiny as well. Candice is obviously a very compassionate person, being a doctor and seeing her interviews. But she's in such sharp contrast from other survivor villains because she wasn't herself on the season. You could immediately see that she was a little out of sorts, and that her personality didn't come through. I used to hate Candice after my first viewing because of her treatment of Jonathan. Jonathan is a smaller villain because he was an essential element to helping the Aitu 4. Candice struggled with the clear disdain that the aitu members felt, and her way of deflecting the negative feelings they felt towards her by taking things out on Jonathan. Candice flipped in order to be with her clique, her group, and to seek the approval of others. And to see things not work out for her as the outcasts, the Aitu alliance, took majority. Candice was the villain of Cook islands, but is absolutely a good person in her life.
Fiji: Dreamz Herd
Runners up: Rocky Reid, Lisi Lanares
Dreamz is another player who I disliked on first viewing, but I've come to understand and appreciate Dreamz as a player and a person. Dreamz was interesting because his two biggest facets were being such a good social entity, and being completely cutthroat and pragmatic in his methods. He openly struggled with the decisions he made but anytime it came to a vote he would make the decision he saw as most beneficial to himself. Dreamz was a player who was being pulled in 5 different directions and stuck to his guns by consistently zagging when others wanted him to zig when it came to strategy. He asked not for approval but for forgiveness, and his gameplay and social game while overshadowed by Earl are underrated and should be appreciated.
China: Jean Robert
Runner up: Courtney
Courtney would be a more obvious choice since she was on season 20 as a villain, but her antithesis to Jean Robert, and her underdog status was what made her more rootable than Jean Robert. Such a great example of a 'love to hate him' type villain, Jean Robert is the physical embodiment of the term 'that guy'. He's big, loud, boisterous and straight up purposefully acted badly during the first half of his game. It's so hilarious that the second half of his game where Jean-Robert improves himself never got to come into play. James said "if there's anyone who can mess this up it's Jean-Robert" which is funny as hell. Jean-Robert is unique in that literally every player he comes across dislikes him and makes some kind of negative comment. Pure, hilarious villainy.
Micronesia: Parvati Shallows
Runner up: Natalie Bolton
It pains me not to talk about Natalie in a series about villains, but Parvati is the face of the 'mean girl' archetype in survivor, and for good reason. Her gameplay was ingenious, spastic, shifty and without even a hint of remorse. Parvati stabbed several men of the season in the heart, licked the blood off the knife and laughed like a schoolgirl on her way out of tribal council and she is ICONIC for it. Parvati is another unique case when it comes to villains, given that her flirty nature in cook islands contrasted with her girl power approach to Micronesia. It's almost as if Parvati was so unbelievably based that she saw what people said after cook islands and said "oh ok I'll just vote all the men out then". Parvati revolutionized the role of villains in survivor as she's the first to win by owning up to her villainy at the FTC. Chris Daugherty and Brian Heidk could both be classified as villainous winners, but they continued their deception through the end of FTC and won through a facade. Parvati looked every player in the eye with a smile on her face and told them exactly why she deserved the win. Emperor Queen shit right there.
Gabon: Randy Bailey
Runners up: Corinne Kaplain, Crystal Cox, Ken Hoang
Lots of contenders here, but Randy is the first villain that I've been confused about. First he's a bigot, an asshole, a joyless cermudgeon. Then he's misunderstood, lonely puppydog who just wants to be understood. THEN HE'S AN ASS AGAIN. I don't know if I should dislike or feel bad for Randy, although nowadays a big part of me hopes he's doing well. Randy hates everyone and everything, including himself which makes him such a crazy character, since he openly describes himself as a trainwreck. He calls himself a bully, ruthless, angry, blunt, mean, sarcastic, and charming. That really is the perfect description of the guy, as he really was an anomaly in his lack of exceptions with the negativity. Even his smile looks unnatural, as if the permanent scowl is his staple.
Tocantins: Coach Wade
Coach Wade is the first villain to openly frame himself as a hero. Sandra tried to emulate Coach's major wannabe good guy energy but didn't do it as iconically as Coach did. Coach walked into the game wanting to be honorable, he wanted to revolutionize the game and he wanted to walk away the hero who everyone could love and relate to. Not everyone (in game or otherwise) loved him, getting annoyed with his decisions all the time.
Samoa/Heroes vs villains: Take a fucking guess
I don't even need to say the name. The absolute most infamous villain in the history of the show, and the one who singlehandedly became the face of samoa, Russell is the kind of guy to take the most ruthless path possible rather than the path of least resistance. Russell does everything he does out of spite, and made history in lots of different ways. He made a series of one on one alliances with all the women on his tribe just because he thought the idea of a dumbass girls alliance would be funny. He created conflict even when he was not in danger in any way. His strategic game? REVOLUTIONARY. His social game? FLAWLESS. His physical game? well it wasn't great but the bandy legged daddy still did kinda ok, better than I expected. What other villain in the show's history has said something evil in EVERY CONFESSIONAL. Russell is iconic as hell, and even if he's not great at winning survivor, I'm glad he was so iconic as to change the seasons he was on so drastically.

Support for an Extinct Animals (Post-Dinosaurs) Expansion?

So, I was reminiscing about my favorite Zoo Tycoon 2 expansion, the Extinct Animals one, and wishing how much I could see them in the wonderful work that is Planet Zoo (having recently acquired it in this sale). PBS Eons wonderful videos that I really enjoy seeing that showcase so many incredible animals also made me really get invested on this idea as well.
Frontier already did Dinosaurs with their Jurassic Park work, and while I think they did good work there, I'd like to see focus on the animals after, specially the Eocene Megafauna that is so under-explored. They could bring a lot of things from it, maybe including the bio-engineering parts (not my favorite in either but I can see the appeal for a lot of people).
I understand that a big part of the animals appeal in PZ is realism, trying to model them on their real life counterparts as much as possible, and that would be quite hard with so many of these extinct species, but I think it'd be a fantastic product even if Frontier would have to get creative with reconstructing them design-wise and their behaviors.
The other main issue is, of course, the size of this proposed DLC. Frontier's DLCs released so far are wholy unsuited for this type of enterprise, and we'd need to get a proper expansion, bigger than Return to Jurassic Park and maybe as big as Return + Claire's Sanctuary together, but without the expensive voice acting/licensing. Such pack would be expensive, but I think it'd be worth it as well.
Besides the animals, which I will talk about further below, we'd have the items and scenery pieces added. Beyond the obvious 'Pre-Historical Items' themes, which to be honest could be great (cave paintings are gorgeous, and those mammoth huts and similar items are very interesting), I'd like to see the addition of Museum-theme items, including new buildings, personnels and just looks in general inspired by the classic Natural Museums of the World.
Cave paintings examples: 1. 2. 3. 4/full-frame-shot-of-handprints-on-rock-at-cueva-de-las-manos-691100153-5b6620fdc9e77c00501e8974.jpg).
Mammoth Hut.
Natural History Museums: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.
Below I will make some suggestions for animals I think would be great additions. Even if dream would come true and this Expansion Pack would be made, I of course don't expect all of them to be added, but would love to see any of them in game. Obs: The list skews heavily towards megafauna because that's my preference and interest, but would love interesting suggestions for exhibit animals and what kind of thematic items we'd see.

Chinese California: A comprehensive guide to play as Quinqiu in DoD

Chinese California: A comprehensive guide to play as Quinqiu in DoD
This country has turned into my favorite one from DoD, so I decided to make a guide that covers most (or at least the ones I know) ways to play this country, I hope you guys like it, any feedback or questions would be welcomed.

1. What's Quinqiu?

Quinqiu it's a country located in the west coast of Arcadia (North America) funded in the middle ages by chinese settlers, it started as a group of city states, but it quickly unified, with Sanbao (San Francisco in our time-line) as the dominant one, after a war against the spanish that settled the borders that we can see in DoD initial map.

Quinqiu starting position

2. Why is an interesting option?

For one side, since it's located in the new world you get a lot immigration from europe and asia and get the decision Land of Opportunity (which gives 450% of immigration) as a decision as the start of the game, for another your start position allows you grab a lot of uncolonized land in the middle and north of Arcadia and subjugate aboriginal states. But most importantly, since you belong to the chinese cultural group you get the Chinese Reunification CB, which allows you to conquer land from the chinese states and potentially form China.

Return to China decision as shown in the game
The problem is, forming China or at least trying to grab some land from them it's not going to be an easy task. To begin with, you are both economically and technologically far behind the other arcadian nations in the east coast and have way less population. Vinland, Belgian Confederacy and Plantagenia start with at least 1M pops while you only start with 700k, you don't start with as much reforms so immigrants more likely are going to migrate to the other arcadian countries, on the top of that, once Arcadian Union is formed they get cores over your land. To make things worse, there's Japan, which holds a colony in the north called Kita Kaigan (Alaska in out time-line) and they later get a decision to conquer all your whole country

Quinqiu starting Tech Tree
So, after all this exposition, playing as Quinqiu might feel like a rather impossible task, like forming India as Sikkim, but in reality not only surviving but also getting dominance over Arcadia is very feasible. I'm going to try to explain the general ideas to turn Quinqiu from a almost failed ex-colony and Japan's toy to a global superpower.

3. First Steps

  • Isolate yourself from Arcadia and Amerigan politics
You don't get to have a decent enough army until mid-late game, in the early you can barely hold four or five brigades, so trying to get yourself involved into Arcadian-Ameriga wars would be pointless, you are just going to weak yourself. Dissolve your alliance with the incas, try go keep close relations with your neighbors, specially Gran Colombia, but in general, do not accept any alliance.

Breaking our alliance With the Incas. They only will take you to useless wars
Rushing for secondary power position with prestige tech spam to grab as much uncolonized land as you can and get alliance with the belgians and colombians to beat them and take their colonies might seem like the best route, but then again, your army is not at the same level, they scalate way quicker and they are going to beat you and take their land back later for sure, specially if one of the arcadian countries get to form Arcadian Union.
  • Land of Opportunity decision
So, as I stated before, this decision gives you +450 immigration for 20 years and you get it from the start of the game don't need anything particularly special;however, taking it as soon as possible is not the best option since there aren't a lot of people migrating in the early game, not to mention that all the new world nations take it as the game starts, so it won't work as efficiently as if only you had the +450% burst. I prefer to save it for mid-late game, when most nations have already lost their immigration burst, there are more people in the world and more wars in europe.
Decision, as shown in game
  • Industrializing
Fund the project of your capitalist, start industrializing as quickly as you can, this going to encourage more immigrants into your country
  • Use your focus to improve administration eficiency and raise the number of intelectuals
A minor point, but important nevertherless
  • Focusing and using the White Peace Militancy exploit to get some reforms
Instead of rushing for uncolonized land in Arcadia, a better option is to focus on Oceania, there are way weaker countries here, such ass Hawaii, Rapa Nui or Tui Tonga, they don't have an army at all, neither any population to sustain themselves, so they are basically free real estate, and since oceania is considered the new world they are going to get immigrants and are going to get assimilated very quickly.
By "White Peace militancy exploit" I'm referring to a negative buff that comes from not white peacing when you are losing a war for a great margin. See, when you are losing a war not white peacing cost +1 militancy and +5 war exhausting, which might seem like a bad thing but actually rising you militancy would allow you to pass reforms really easily. I like to justify a protectorate over rapa nui and then just do nothing until the Casus Belli Grace time of 700 days start kicking out and giving negative score. After a while They are going to start sending white peace and rising your militancy. At this point you are going to be able to pass reforms.

White peace exploit

First focus on Voting Franchise, rush until Universal voting, which gives +55% of immigration, then try to get Secret Ballots, Cultural Rights and Trade Unions. The trade unions are important because it encourage people to ask for Social Reforms rather than Political Reforms. Social reforms are better because you get to improve your School System and your Health Care System, the first one makes easier to assimilate your unaccepted pops and the second one is going to make your population grow faster. Keep in mind the buffs from these reforms comes with a higher cost of administration.
Unless you have a strong economy, do not focus on other social reforms. Unemployment subsidies and Pensions are going to come with a higher Social Spending, which at the start of the game is only going to backtrack you, while Safety regulation, Minimum wage and Work Hours is only going to make your factories to produce less and disencourage Capitalists to open new ones.
Do not go for too much time with this, since there's one point where your militancy is going to keep growing and you won't get any reforms at all, this is going to cause revolts. Passing Universal voting, secret ballots, at least three levels of Trade Unions ar at least one social reform is going to be more than enough. This is self hurting your country but when finally green immigration you are going to see the fruits of your effort.

4. Early Game

  • Going for Tui Tonga
After annexing Rapa Nui, Tui Tonga looks like the next logical option. Hawaii is fine, but you later can annex them by sphering them. Annexing Fiji or Samoa from Tui Tonga gives you a port where you can send settlers to New Caledonia and Motu Timu (North Island in our time-line) during the mid game. These regions start with 30 life rating and they are away from any european colony in the region so once you turn into secondary power you would be able to grab them without any effort
  • Going for Zhourao
Zhourao has a similar story as you, it's the result of Chinese settlers in the region and later turned into an independent state, but unlike you they start as an absolute monarchy and don't have the Land of Opportunity as starting decision so even when they are in the new world they are not going to get any immigration at all, adding the fact that they are even more behing technologically compared to the rest of the new world and they only start with 350k, however, they start with really good ports, so invading them is going to be a good first step in our conquest of China.

As bad as your army is, Zhourao's is worse
Another important thing to note is that they get the decision to grab land uncolonized land from the region, you wouldn't have to attak for the colonies, instead grab the regions, they only have four. Once you get three of them the next one is going to be the Conquest Casus Belli and you are going to get all their colonies with the last region. This land is very sparserly populated and since it's considered new world it gets immigrants so it's easy to assimilate, you won't have to worry about revolts until late game.
  • Going for South East Asia
This another possibility, specially Brunei because of the oil and its proximity to mainland China
The proble is, usually europeans trend to have an aggresive focus against these countries so by the time you would start colonizing the best region might be already taken by europeans.
  • Grabing some land from the middle of Arcadia
After you get Ideological Though you can grab some colonies from the middle of Arcadia. They don't have cores of other countries, at least not in the early game, so don't worry, for now.

Decision that allows you to get land from middle Arcadia
  • Annexing Rohnnst
Rohnnst is a small native american country that once you have a border with them you get an event that allows you to annex them for just 5 infamy.

  • Becoming secondary power and colonizing
This step is pretty straight forward. Now you have more than enough reforms to get a substantial amount of immigrants you are going to come to your country. Do not rush Secondary Power status with prestige spam tech, you are going to get it eventually from industrialization. Focus on infraestructure (trains) and power (to make your factories to produce more and getting more money out of that) tech. Once becoming Secondary power, you can start colonizing the rest of Zhourao along the near islands I mentioned some points ago.

Colonizing some near land once turned into secondary power

5. The Gran Colombian - Spanish war and the Congress of Andargoya

This is my favorite part of this mod, because the result of this two events heavely affects your playthrough and it always unnexpected. As you might now, Spain start in war with Gran Colombia, they want independence while Spain tries to take back to control. The result of this war heavely affects your game

Andargoya congress global event
  • If Spain wins
If Spain wins they are going to annex the whole Gran Colombia and later established viceroyalties, dependencies of the spanish crown.

The result of Gran Colombian war if Spain wins
  • If ends in a stalemate
If none of the sides wins, the Spanish indies get divided in two, the north goes to Gran Colombia while the South goes to Spain, also the Andargoya region (Panama in our timeline) get ceded to Spain. Later there's another war where Spain tries to claim the rest of gran colombia, which is wins, they get completely incorporated into the spanish dominions (no dependencies)
  • If Colombia wins
The Andargoya congress event gets fired, this leds to the New World republics to discuss if they are going to form a new pan-amerigan nation or if they are going to form their own republics and go their own way. There are there, even four results:
  • Success
All the republics get to be part of one single nation: Gran Colombia
  • Partial Success
The north unifies under one flag while the south gets their independence
  • Failure
Total failure of Gran Colombia, all the republics get their independence.
There's another result where although the congress is a failure, the mexicans coerce the other republics to be part of gran colombia against their will, this result in a more unstable GC with only mexican as accepted culture.
Discussing how this six scenarios affect the gameplay of the new world as a whole could result in a whole guide by itself, but to put in simple words, the best scenario is when Spain wins the whole thing, because Spain gets a really hard mid-late, they don't usually do well so you can claim your cores on south Arcadia later. Not to mention they don't get the immigration benefits, so even if Mexico or Lusitania breaks free they are not going to be as strong as an independent Mexico in the start of the game. And even better scenario is where Spain form the different viceroyalties of the new world because there's an obscure event which states if you take the capitals of all the viceroyalties for a year you can force Spain to leave the new world, this cede their ports in the caribbean to you, the Galapagos islands and set the viceroyalties along with Cuba free. The worse scenario is an independent Mexico, as counterintuitive as it might seem, Gran Colombia is not really that strong or stable, they get a lot of independent movements and revolts, they don't get strong until late game when they have already assimilated their minorities into mexican culture, they have really low literacy on the top of that, to put in simple words, they are a paper lion. Mexico, on the other hand, start with a strong national composition, with small and weak independent movements and higher literacy, since they are smaller they can settle in the north quickly, taking your cores on mexican land is going to be way harder and assimilating them later is might be an imposible task, not to mention they are going to suck your immigrant influx, and on the top of that they are very likely to become GP in mid-late game.
To summarize
  • Spanish victory is the best scenario
  • Independent Mexico is the worst scenario
  • Independent Gran Colombia is the average scenario (and most likely)

6. Fighting Japan back

We are entering to the mid game, we are already settled the bases of our country, we are getting immigrants, we have colonies and we are industrializing. At this point you will have to face the first big great menace of your nation: Japan.
Japan gets a decision that allows them to annex your entire country, they are great power are far ahead military and navally so beating them is going to be very difficult. I suggest you to built a navy, it doesn't need to be big or strong, Japan is ahead in that regard you can't surpass him; however, destroyings two transports could make the difference between 12k and 6k landing, even when you lose the battle. Try alliance Gran Colombia or Viland and call them into the war, they are specially efficient ocupying Kita Kaigan (Japanese colony in the north), just remember to cancel your alliance later so we won't get involved into arcadian wars. If all that fails and Japan manage to make a great landing, put your troops in the mountains east to Sangbao (Sierra Nevada in out time-line), that region has mountainous terrain so you are going to get defence buffs and the AI likely going to attack it.
This war usually is very time and resource consuming, usually get extendend over two years; nevertheless you can get a lot from it: To begin with, at this point of the game, Japan usually has port in China, which you can add as a wargoal infamy free by the chinese reuinification CB, so if you win you are not only going to keep your independence, but also you would gain your first foothold in mainland China.

7. Entering the mid game

At this point most countries would have lost their +450% buff, it's pretty much efficient use this decision, you can also wait for late to use it during late for the great wars but I think late 50s, early 60s is the best moment to use it, since by late you are going to still get a lot of immigrants anyways.
You can rush Naval doctrine to get more ports preparing for the colonization of the last remaining uncolonized lands, but since you are likely to focus on conquering China all your colonial points are going to go there, so you would never get a lot of colonial points. During the scrambles grabbing Tahiti, the rest of Zhourao and Minami Torishima (Marcus in base game) it's pretty factible since none of the other countries goes for them.
At this point you would have the requirements to pass the Destiny South decision, which ironically, not only gives you cores on the south (Gran Colombian/Mexican territory) but also in the South and east; however i suggest you to save this decision for the late game.

8. The second Japanese War

When you become a great Power, you get the decision to assist the Kita Kaigan independence from Japan. Just like the last one, just ensure they are not going to land in your country by attacking their transports. With the time the war goal is going to tick in our favor and they will peace out.
Now you get the decision to annex them peacefully by sphering them but I suggest you to leave this to the late game, since they just got their independence and have the Land of Opportunity decision they are going to get a lot of immigrants. Let it be for a couple of decades and then anex them, they are going to hold way more people like this.

9. 1870, machine guns and starting advancing over China

Get machine gun tech as soon as possible. With this technology we can start colonizing mainland China. During the Japanese-Quinqiu war you might have gotten a bit of chinese land from the japanese, if you didn't because Japan didn't got chinese ports at all you should justify a punitive expedition CB and get one. Once you got land in mainland China you will get the Chinese Reunification CB, which is an infamy free casus belli that allows you to get land from any country that holds chinese land. In current DoD version is pretty factible to form China, since while the regular wars gives 5 years peaces, the Chinese reunification gives only one year, on the top of that you can truce-break for only 20 prestige cost, no extra infamy or militancy penalty, so once weakened, you can keep attacking the chinese uncivilized countries to get even more land.

Stablishing a port over Chinese territory

Taking advantage of Quinxplotion
Keep in mind, even if your army is far technologically superior than the Chinese, theirs is still far superior in number so you would need a really good attack general and an army not less that 60k if you wanna stand a chance. By this point of the game, usually the two main contesters for the Chinese inheritance are the Taiping Kingdom and Manchuria; Song/Nanjing usually gets absorbed by their neighbors, and Tungning gets their mainland and Christiania (Phillipines in our time-line) holdings raided by rebels and their capital annexed by Japan later; generally it's an stalemate between Taiping and Manchuria or one slowly eating the other one. In the second scenario you can attack the weak one and completely annex it in a decade, even sooner if you trucebreak. By 1900 you would have conquered all mainland China, only some ports, Macau and Hong Kong are missing.

Late game completely annexed China

10. Forming China

So, this would be a rather controversial point. Personally I don't think forming China as Quinqiu is a particularly fun way or rewarding to play as this country, so I won't really got into a lot of detail of how to get the remaining ports from the countries I mentioned before. First of, since this decision moves your capital from Sanbao to mainland China you lost your new world status; the problem with this is that people from mainland China are going to start migrating to the new world, strengthening them. This whole guide revolves around getting dominance over the country, so giving immigrants to your neighbors is not really a good idea. Maybe in a gameplay when you are not focusing on getting more immigrants forming China would be rewarding, but without the immigrants probably you won't have a strong enough army to actually conquer China, not to mention you would lose a lot of benefits from being a country in the new world.

After forming China you lost the classification of new world country. This benefits your neighbors a lot
Second of all, you would get a massive amount of militancy; as counterintuitive as it might seem, a protectorate over China is very unlikely to revolt against you, most rebels are going to spam on your mailand in Arcadia (North America) or even in Zhourao, they don't usually pop up on colonized China. So although forming China is very possible at this point I don't like to take that decision.

11. Alternatives fo Chinese reunification

So, why conquering China in the first place? First of, you would get a tons of income out of taxation, because of the massive population in China, second of all you would get tons of soldiers for the exact same reason; I prefer to use China as a Human Quarry, that is to say, train their people into my army and use them against my enemies. Also they have really good ports, so at this point it would help to develop a good navy. As I said before, they are not likely to rise against you, so revolts won't be a problem. If you want to lower your infamy a bit you can release some of the chinese stantes, I like to release Song/Nanjing because unlike other chinese states, they start as Partially Westernized if you release them, they westernize very quickly and start putting immigrants into the rest of the world, most of them are going to go to your country.

Having a Strong Army I suggest you to take the military industrial complex tech school which is going to strength your colonial army and your industry.

12. Taking Macau and Hong Kong

You only need a strong Navy, built a lot of Monitors and put them in stacks on ten around your coastline, they are going to stop Spanish and Burgundian navies if they want to land on your shores. They are very unlikely to surrender even if they are losing for a great margin, so don't expect them to surrender in a couple of months

13. Entering the new century

At this point you would have strong enough to be a GP, sphere Hawaii to annex them and take the option that allows you to conquer the rest of the Maori state. Research Military Directionism as soon as possible to get gas attack. Built steam transports and start taking your Chinese army into your mainland, also research Mass Politics as soon as possible to get the Dismantle Empire CB once someone discovers the Great Wars

14. The east Arcadia countries

Since we picked isolationism from Arcadia politics and diplomacy we haven't discussed a lot about this region. While west Arcadia is mostly calm and the only big war is the Japanese-Quinqiu war, in the east there's Vinland, the Belgian Confederacy and Plantagenia, countries that resulted from Scandinavia, Burgundian and Anglois colonisation respectively fighting for their cores, rebels and even natives getting independence from crisis. It's a constant warfare, but if one country manage to dominate the other two can annex them and later form the Arcadian Union which is going to be our biggest threat for dominance over the region. The Arcadian wars can come with two different results
  • Stalemate
There's no dominant power, the region ends in total anarchy, countries changing of ideology 24/7 and no one is migrating there, actually, they are emigrating from those countries. If that's the scenario, well, congratulations, you won, the one last enemy is Gran Colombia / Mexico.

Map of a stalemate in Arcadia. None of the countries are GP and the three are fascist
  • There's a dominant country
Which usually is the Belgian Confederacy, once they get all their cores they get a decision to annex the other two arcadian countries and later form the Arcadian Union.

15. Completely obliterating Arcadian hopes and dreams of unification

Let's suppose two scenarios, one country, let's say
  • Belgium Confederacy has annexed the other two countries but haven't formed Arcadia yet for whatever reason,
in this case, once you get the gas attack and Dismantle Empire CB, pass the Destiny South decision and attack them for some of your cores in their land. With your imported chinese troops and gas attack you are going to stomp over the Arcadian army with no problem, even if they call Gran Colombia / Mexico into the war, add the Dismantle Empire CB. Once defeated, this CB is going to completely destroy the union, The Belgium confederacy is going to get reduced just to a handy of regions and lost all their cores in the rest of the region, not only that, but also all their pops get deported into their core provinces; Plantagenia and Vinland along with all the native american countries are going to get independence, which you can annex whenever you feel like it.

Map of the belgian confederacy after signing the Dismantle Empire CB
  • Belgium Confederacy has formed the Arcadian Union
This scenario is a bit more complex, since using the dismantle Empire CB doesn't release the aboriginal countries and only is going to release Vinland or Plantagenia if they haven't signed the Arcadian Union congress: See, after annexing the other two countries, Arcadia gets the option to call a congress over the Vinlanding and Plantagenian territories, if they sign, they lost all their cores and their primary cultures become an accepted one for Arcadia; to exemplify, if Arcadia has Vinland as accepted culture but no Plantagenian, then after getting dismantled they are going to cede only Plantagenia.

Map of arcadia after signing the Dismantling Empire
Let's say, you used the dismantle CB and Arcadia lost Plantagenia; even then, they are still a really big country receiving a lot of immigrants, so the fight is not over. After the peace is finished attack them to release Anishibabe and later Nunatuv.

Liberating Nunavut after annexing Anishibabe

Lastly, taking our cores back and annexing Nunavut
This is going to make them a lot of land and industrial power and you can annex these countries by just 5 infamy and since it's a sparsely populated region it's very easy to assimilate. At this point the remaining Arcadia is likely to fall into total collapse and get raided by fascist of communist rebels, so they won't become GP again.

16. Defeating Gran Colombia / Mexico

In the same vein as Arcadia, you can go an figh them and get all your cores back, with your highly developed army tech and imported Han troops they won't stop you. You can go for Bahia and Lusitania to get access to the Caribbean and get the valuable oil in the region, but this is rather optional.

17. Celebrating your success

If you have come this far, then congratulation! you just turned into the equivalent of USA of the Divergences of Darkness Mod; people from latin america, Africa and east Asia are going to be learning Quinqiunian chinese instead of English, Anglois or French, chinese culture is going to be a matter of export around the world, Shanghai animation is going to get the place of Disney in our timeline as the biggest and most influential animation studio in the world and people will discuss for generation the unspeakable things you did on the chinese protectorates in mainland China for generations. From this point you can just sit, manage your colonies, encouraging migration into your conquered lands and turn them into states. You can also intervene into european wars, but I prefer just chill out at this point.

Survivor Seasons 1 through 30 Ranking First Time Watching

I previously ranked Survivor seasons 1-24. I decided to update my rankings through Season 30.
I am watching them all now in order for the first time. I started this back in lockdown and have been going strong on it since. I watched the first few seasons live back in when they first aired but most seasons I am seeing for the first time. My opinions at times I think differ from some of the popular thoughts out there. Feel Free to rip into them if you wish.
  1. Survivor 1 Borneo: This is the best season because it is the first. Before people started coming up with elaborate strategies, eliminating threats, hidden immunity idols. It was a perfect season. Some of my favorite characters on the season are Rudy, Sue, Richard Hatch, Gervase.
  2. Survivor 10 Palau- I loved the physical domination of this season.
  3. Survivor 7:Pearl Islands: The season that gave us Rupert.
  17. Favorite Players: Jon, Keith, Reed, Josh,
  29. Favorite Players: Yau-Man, Joel, Penner, Eliza, Ozzy, Erik, Jason,

DON CUNNINGHAM - Something For Everyone
Format: LP
Label: Luv N'Haight
Quantity: 1000
Release type: RSD Limited Run / Regional Focus Release
Originally re-pressed and released in 2003, Luv N’Haight reissue a special limited edition run for RSD Black Friday. Ridiculously rare vinyl, superb musicianship, and a Playboy Club are ingredients that make the Don Cunningham Quartet's Something For Everyone album so tasty. Luv N'Haight is proud to preserve and re-issue one of the most collectible, highly sought-after jazz-dance records.

"Bunnies plus food and drink equals good time."Brad Holiday's original liner notes (featured on the back of this album) tell it like it was. Don Cunningham, Marion Miller, John Mixon, and Manny Quintero formed the Don Cunningham Quartet and played ‘The Living Room’ at Hugh Hefner's St. Louis branch of the Playboy Club between 1965 and 1968. Their music was different from that of the jazz mainstays playing in ‘The Penthouse Room’. It was also different from any act in St. Louis at the time. "Before forming the Quartet, I traveled to Fiji, Australia, the Caribbean and beyond as part of the Johnny Mathis group," explains Cunningham. "On these tours I discovered the "island sound," which was something I'd never been exposed to before. It was enchanting, mysterious and sexual."

The Quartet's unique blend of exotica, Latin and Brazilian rhythms, jazz and easy listening was a perfect fit for the Playboy Club. "I was influenced by having seen Arthur Lyman, Cal Tjader, Willie Bobo, Mongo Santamaria, and Harry Belafonte play live. Not to mention that I was buying all the Les Baxter I could get!" adds Cunningham. The band's sound caught the attention of Bob Webb, a wealthy local businessman. As a friend of piano player Marion Miller he'd learned of the Quartet’s popularity. "I don't want to work, you work, I'll put up the money," Miller recalls Webb 's words. Webb fronted the funds for Miller to create Exclusive records, releasing three albums and two 45rpm singles, including the Something For Everyone LP. "The music was only sold locally. We never looked up a distributor and we really didn't have a regular record deal," says Miller. Don Cunningham only remembers selling and giving-away the album at Playboy appearances and to a few friends outside of club hours. Only 500 copies were ever printed, some mono, some stereo, it's not known how many of each format.

Of all the tracks on the album "Tabu" has been the biggest hit with the jazz-dance crowd. That track is the reason many collectors have the album on their wants lists. It remains a tune worthy of heavy DJ play. "Something For Everyone" has been at the top of my wants list for about 10 years now. All my other wants I have managed to track down over the years, but to own an original copy of the Don Cunningham album is as illusionary as driving a Rolls Royce," says produceDJ Rainer Truby of Compost Records. "Not only is it a rare album it is also a good one. "Tabu" to me is the mother of all jazzdance records! A welcome release! I'm curious to check the rest of the LP, but "Tabu" is more than enough of a reason to stroll down to your local record dealer," he adds. Miller and Cunningham are surprised but obviously very happy with the current interest in the album. Both are still active musicians and hope that this re-issue may stimulate even more work for them. At time of writing Cunningham was on the road with his wife, appearing as The Cunninghams on tour with the Count Basie band. "It's great that the album is being re-issued. There's truly a quality of music on it that has been missed for so long. In a way it's world music - Polynesian, samba, Brazil, jazz, West Indian. It has the energy of Latin and funk records. It's inspired by - but is not really - easy listening, you couldn't exactly sleep in our "Quiet Village!"" says Cunningham.
- Andrew Jervis. Ubiquity, February 2003.

BOB JAMES - Nautilus/Submarine (Remixed)
Format: 7" Vinyl
Label: Evosound
Quantity: 500
Release type: 'RSD First' Release
In 1974, Bob James released his first solo album, One, which featured a who’s who of notable jazz greats like Idris Muhammad, Jon Faddis, Grover Washington Jr, James Gadd, and more. Hidden at the at the very end of One was a largely overlooked filler track that would go on to impact a whole new generation a decade later. This song was “Nautilus”. “Nautilus” made a huge impact on hip-hop culture, and has been sampled over 250 times, including by living legends Tribe Called Quest, Dr. Dre and Run DMC. This is the first time this track is being released as a single on 7" vinyl. Side B holds and exclusive remix of the smooth jazz, chart-topping “Submarine” from his album Espresso. JAZZ SABBATH - Jazz Sabbath
Format: LP / DVD
Label: Blacklake
Quantity: 1500
Release type: RSD Exclusive Release
According to the liner notes, Jazz Sabbath was a jazz trio formed in 1968. This self-titled debut album should have been released in 1970, but disaster struck when bandleader Milton Keanes suffered a massive heart attack and the label decided to cancel the release. Shortly after, a fire destroyed the label warehouse, erasing the album from existence. Upon his release from hospital many months later, Milton found out that a band from Birmingham, conveniently called 'Black Sabbath', had since released two albums containing metal versions of what he claims were his songs.
With the recently discovered master tapes remixed, Milton set out to prove that the heavy metal band worshipped by millions around the world are in fact nothing more than musical charlatans, thieving the music from a bedridden, hospitalized genius.
In truth; longtime Black Sabbath/Ozzy Osbourne keys and guitar player Adam Wakeman (as Milton Keanes), together with six other top musicians who only go by their ‘60s pseudonyms as well, delivered an album of Sabbath songs, reimagined as classic jazz tracks that surprised both the metal and the jazz critics (in a good way).
Now for the first time on vinyl, Jazz Sabbath comes to record stores on a limited translucent blue vinyl edition, in MONO 'as originally intended in 1969’. (With a bonus track AND a bonus DVD!)

Survivor Quarantine Questionnaire: Will Wahl reflects on being the show's only high schooler

With Survivor filming for seasons 41 and 42 indefinitely postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, EW is reaching back into the reality show’s past. We sent a Survivor Quarantine Questionnaire to a batch of former players to fill out with their thoughts about their time on the show as well as updates on what they’ve been up to since. Each weekday, EW will post the answers from a different player.
High School. A special time in anyone’s life. But Will Wahl had a high school experience truly unlike anyone else in the entire world. Because he did what no one else has ever done, leaving in the middle of his senior year to go play Survivor.
And then after travelling to Fiji, enduring a tropical cyclone, competing against 19 adults, and making it all the way the day 34, Will had to go back to school like nothing had ever happened. “One day I’m starving on an island with cameras shoved in my face, and the next… I’m at senior prom taking pictures and pretending like everything was normal,” says Will. Only, as Will explains, “It wasn’t normal, not at all. I was practically crawling out of my skin for months upon my return. At one point I wanted to defer my college acceptance, grab a plane ticket, and run away. I didn’t know where, but I just had to travel.”
Perhaps it is not surprising that the first high school senior deemed mature enough to handle the Survivor experience has a very even-keeled perspective on his teenage journey into the belly of the reality television beast. In his Quarantine Questionnaire, Will looks back at his time on the island, shares how he feels about being on TV at 18, and reveals what he has been up to since.
Survivor
CREDIT: MONTY BRINTON/CBS VIA GETTY IMAGES ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: First off, give the update as to what you’ve been up to since appearing on Survivor.
WILL WAHL: Life has flown by since Survivor. Over the past couple of years, I attended and graduated from The Ohio State University (go Bucks!). I lived in Sydney, Australia over one summer and had the chance to travel up and down the Eastern Australian Coast. And before quarantine, I had my dream internship working in state government in Ohio. I even got an Alaskan Klee Kai puppy! But it all comes full circle as I find myself surviving a whole new challenge, my first year of law school at Wake Forest University. And, so far, it has been just as rewarding and memorable as my time on Survivor.
What is your proudest moment ever from playing Survivor?
I have two, the first was making it to the merge. I remember that morning so vividly. The Ikabula tribe was eating our typical rice and coconut breakfast while Bret and Jay were telling jokes to try and lighten the mood after the Tribal Council we survived the night before. And then we spotted it. We saw the boat pulling onto shore and we all knew what that meant. A feeling of relief, satisfaction, and excitement rushed over me as we got onto the boat and sped away to our next destination. As a super fan it was such a unique feeling, something I have never experienced at any other point in my life.
And the second moment was winning the first individual immunity challenge. I’m still not sure if I actually would have been voted out if I lost. I know Adam wanted me out, but I’ve been told by others that I wasn’t their first choice, so who really knows what would have happened. But regardless, that was definitely the first time my name was even brought up as a possibility. Funny enough, I had actually done that challenge (“When it Rains, it Pours”) in my living room and could barely get past 10 minutes, so it’s still a miracle to me that I was able to do that for over an hour and a half.
What is your biggest regret from your Survivor experience?
I played the game in fear. I was afraid of being the first one voted off, I was afraid of not making it to the merge, and I was afraid of missing the Loved Ones visit. Fear prevented me from making bigger moves, looking for idols, and playing more aggressively. I felt like a walking target throughout the entire game, like I was constantly one wrong move away from everyone voting for me.
To be fair, I would have been an easy target. As the eighteen-year-old kid, I stuck out like a sore thumb. However, the way I let fear rule my game is a consistent regret of mine. When you play Survivor, you have to play without fear, without regret. If I ever get the chance to play again, I’d rather play my heart out and get voted out pre-merge than make it to day 34 again playing a game rooted in fear.
What’s something that will blow fans’ minds that happened out there in your season but never made it to TV?
During the Zeke vote out, I air wrote letters to try and trick everyone into thinking I was voting for Hannah. The Tribal booth was in direct eyeshot of where we were sitting so you could see people as they were casting their vote. I wrote down “Z-E-K-E” but then I wrote “A-H” above the ballot. That way anyone who was looking at me would think I was voting out Hannah. And from what Hannah and Adam told me, it worked. He ended up not playing his idol believing that I definitely voted for Hannah.
How do you feel about the edit you got on the show?
Of course, a part of me wishes that I was more present on the show. But the truth is, and this is something that many Survivor players need to understand, that if you get voted out, then it is not your story. The story told is either the winner’s, or someone who makes it deep in the game. And, honestly, Adam and I were not working together much throughout the game. It was Adam’s story and I think Survivor did a fantastic job telling it.
And, in terms of my part in the show, the more time goes on, the more comfortable I am with my edit. I think it shows exactly who I was at that point in my life. I was a kid who wanted nothing more than to be accepted and respected. I was simultaneously very confident and very insecure, and I think that was reflected on the show. I still have not watched every episode of Millennials vs. Gen X, and I’m not sure if I ever will, but what I’ve seen is an accurate representation of Will Wahl as an 18-year-old high school student.
What was it like coming back to regular society after being out there? Was there culture shock or an adjustment coming back?
Oh, let me tell you, it was a trip! One day I’m starving on an island with cameras shoved in my face, and the next… I’m at senior prom taking pictures and pretending like everything was normal. But it wasn’t normal, not at all. I was practically crawling out of my skin for months upon my return. At one point I wanted to defer my college acceptance, grab a plane ticket, and run away. I didn’t know where, but I just had to travel.
The best way I can describe it is that when I first went on Survivor, it felt like a dream. But as the days passed, Survivor became more and more of my reality. So when I finally returned home, that was the dream. My family, my friends, my teachers, none of them felt real to me. I was honestly expecting to wake up in a bamboo shelter to the smell of the ocean and a campfire. It took me several weeks to realize that wasn’t going to happen. And then it probably took me about a year and a half before I was fully myself again.
Was there ever a point either during the game or after you got back where you regretted going on the show?
Absolutely not, it was my dream and I never regretted it during or after. But if there was ever a time I was closest, it would have been on Ikabula. For those that don’t remember, that was the swap tribe during Millennials vs. Gen X where we had to start from scratch. But honestly, rebuilding the shelter was not that difficult. The challenge was the bugs. They were just non-stop. They would buzz in your ears so you couldn't sleep. Our buffs offered no protection. And I was wearing shorts, so there was nothing covering my legs. By the end of the week, I had bug bites up and down my legs. Normally, I was one of the few people that could sleep through the night, and I didn’t complain much about the conditions. But Ikabula was certainly the exception.
Whom do you still talk, text, or email with the most from your season?
I sort of faded away from the Survivor community after my season. A lot of this was for mental health reasons, but now I’m just so busy. Law school has barely given me enough time to remain in contact with my biological family, let alone my Survivor family. The only person I occasionally connect with is Hannah, and we really only speak like once or twice a year to catch up on life. I do love everyone from my season though. They are all amazing people who had a great impact on me. I would not be the same without knowing each one of them.
Do you still watch Survivor, and if so, what’s your favorite season you were not on and why?
So, between seasons 33 to 39, I only watched episodes here and there. I would always start off watching them, but it would just become too real for me after a while. However, season 40 reinvigorated my passion for Survivor. I loved seeing all the winners I grew up watching. And, in that same vein, my favorite season is an old-school season. I know this is not a typical answer, but my favorite is hands down Survivor: Panama. The characters on that season were unlike anything I think the show has ever seen before or will ever see again. That final 7 is, in my opinion, the most interesting final 7 in the history of Survivor. It may not be a strategy heavy season, but it was good television and that’s honestly what makes it for me.
Who’s one player from another Survivor season you wish you could have played with or against and why?
Honestly, there’s a lot! I played with Coby from Palau and Missy from Island of the Idols during a Survivor Zoom Charity event for Sunday and they were both a blast to work with, I think we’d have a lot of fun out there. I would also love to play against Greg Buis from Borneo. I know he’s such a wild card, but the superfan in me just can’t help myself. I feel at the very least we would bond over our coconut phones.
If you could make one change to any aspect of Survivor, what would it be and why?
There should be a single season with no idols, no twist, and no swaps. It would be a back to basics season, but Jeff wouldn’t inform the cast of this. I’ve seen this idea on reddit and I think it would be a great idea for at least one season. It would be fun to watch a cast theorize and stress about the advantages that could be in the game or the impending tribe swap that will never arrive. This could also have an impact on future seasons as the casts wouldn’t know whether they are on a season full of twists or if there are no twists at all. As a player, that would frustrate me to no end, but as a fan, I would love to see it!
Finally, would you play again if asked?
Absolutely! I would have said yes if they asked me 20 minutes after I got voted off the last time. But now I feel that I am in the best physical, mental, and emotional state in my life. If I ever got the opportunity to go back, I know I can pull out the “W” this time.

Survivor Quarantine Questionnaire: Tyler Fredrickson on that time Jeff Probst bowed down to a jury

When Jeff Probst returned from Nicaragua after filming completed on Survivor: Worlds Apart, he could not stop raving about the cast. He raved to friends. He raved to the press. And, apparently, he even raved to the cast themselves! That’s one of the behind-the-scenes tidbits Tyler Fredrickson shares in his Survivor Quarantine Questionnaire. The seventh-place finisher from season 30 sets the scene and takes us into a Tribal Council where the host showed his appreciation for the players in what he considered one of the best Survivor seasons ever.
While Probst was an unabashed fan, Tyler takes himself to task five years later for not being more of a breakout character, explaining how his past as a professional athlete trained him to be as boring as possible on camera. But there is absolutely nothing boring about Tyler’s Quarantine Questionnaire. Read on to get the update from a card-carrying member of the #Dirty30.
Tyler Fredrickson
CREDIT: MONTY BRINTON/CBS VIA GETTY IMAGES ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: First off, give the update as to what you’ve been up to since appearing on Survivor.
TYLER FREDRICKSON: Man, the more things change, the more they stay the same! On Survivor, I had just finished working at a talent agency and was barely "white collar." Now I'm back in Hollywood, running [actress] Joey King's production company. That said, the last two years have been life-transforming: I went through a divorce, tripped into a campfire and spent two weeks in a burn unit, lost my little brother and grandfather, and became roommates with Max (from my season). If there's one takeaway from playing this show, it's that I found my tribe. The support and encouragement from cast members — both from my season and others — has sustained me through so much heartbreak and transition. I feel I'm finally finding my footing again... and it feels really good.
What is your proudest moment ever from playing Survivor?
Winning individual immunity! For 45 minutes, I had to stand on my tiptoes with a block on my head pressed to a board. At the time, I didn't know any of the players I was playing against (like I do now), so I saw all of them as villains. The competitor in me wanted to beat them at everything, always, and make them drink it in. So having the freedom to sit back while Jeff clasped that necklace was awesome. After he did, I slapped the bill of his hat down in excitement. Didn't make the edit — you don't make Jeff look da fool — but I was elated.
What is your biggest regret from your Survivor experience?
Not making a move earlier. I sat back like a snake in the grass for 32 days, patient, quiet, building an alliance and trust... and then got sniped by my closest ally. Due to circumstances, I don't know if I could have made a monster move before then, but in retrospect, I wish I had. I'm actually really pleased with how I played... even though that means getting voted out in 7th place. I felt I was leading the majority four alliance out of seven, but ultimately, even my alliance saw me as a threat and voted me out.
What’s something that will blow fans’ minds that happened out there in your season but never made it to TV?
Three fun, short stories.
  1. We were one of the first seasons to have multiple, genuine, superfans on the show. We also didn't have a marooning. All the cast came riding in on the backs of three separate utility trucks, separated by "Collar" color.
Now, there was a cameraman in the back shooting close-ups of us White Collars as we jostled throughout this jungle for like three hours before meeting Jeff, but occasionally he would jump out to recharge camera gear or hide as the helicopter swept in to shoot us from overhead.
Once he was gone, Max, Shirin, and I began to tear into the bed of the truck, looking for clues, food, stuffing our bags with what was only to be used as set dressing: ropes, wood, even a secured tarp that the cameraman was sitting on. Obviously, production *confiscated them when we arrived, but we didn't know. We were just playing the game like superfans!
*Max was able to successfully commandeer a short cord of rope, but it was ultimately as useless as white collar people camping.
  1. Soon before our cast broke the auction, Dan Foley received an extra vote advantage tied in a wooden sleeve as reward for a winning rock. Dan and I were close, but I soon found out he was not going to tell me what he'd won. He said the rules stated he couldn't say... sneaky, sneaky. You liar.
Later in the afternoon, he went off to do a confessional and I walked back to camp alone, only to find Sierra Dawn sleeping in the hammock guarding Dan's bag. There were no camera crews around, just a yawning producer. But it had to be done.
I quickly walked up and snatched the bag out from under Sleeping Beauty and took off down the first trail I could find, ripping Dan's bag open as I ran. I took the box out and started tearing open the clue while the now wide-eyed producer slid in behind me, trying to operate a small camera slung around his neck for emergencies, hissing into his radio for a larger crew to come find us. Once I scanned the note, I flung it in the bag and then sprinted back, threw it under Sierra, and walked away cool, calm, and (ahem) collected... right as the three-man crew came huffing around a corner.
I sat down next to the fire, my heart racing. The producer walked over and asked if I could go grab the bag again for the real crew to record. I looked over at Sierra and she was starting to wake up. Not happening. Who knew that waking up from a nap could be such a game-changing moment?
Later, [while] filming a confessional, production yelled at me for not playing the game in front of the cameras, which was true. You'll hear me say, "I raced off!" but the edit shows I casually pick up a bag. They ended up stitching together other scenes and inserts in order to make the moment happen in the actual show (probably isn't the last time either). Next time, I tell myself, do it for the cameras... but sneaky, sneaky was right, I ain't no simp.
2 1/2. Sorry if these are too long. But you're in quarantine, c'mon.
  1. All throughout our season, production was hinting that we were one of their favorite groups of newbies in history... that casting was ecstatic... the stories, players, gameplay were all there and they had a season! We all felt good, not only for ourselves but for the fans. It's one of the things that started to bond us early on as a cast, which still endures today.
So, much to our satisfaction (and surprise) when at final tribal Jeff said if there was one cast in the history of the show he'd like to return and play all over again — brand-new season, brand-new stories — it would be ours. He added that CBS would never go for it. But if he could, we would!
We were stoked (and I like to think Jeff winked directly at me). Then, to thank us, suddenly he just dropped to his knees and gave us all the "We're not worthy! We're not worthy!" wave and bow to the jury and they couldn't believe it. I believed it, though — those dimps were indented toward me the deepest. Then he grabbed the urn with the winning votes and walked off into the jungle... where he probably still is now, for all anyone knows.
How do you feel about the edit you got on the show?
You only get what you give, right? Here's my defense for a quiet, understated edit: As a pro athlete, you are taught to give "confessionals" that are rote, unemotional. You never want to give the enemy "locker room material." And I quickly learned, surrounded by cameras and producers, that everything I put out there could be used against me. So I kept life tight-lipped and uninteresting. Was it good TV? Hell no. Would I change it if I went back out? Hell yes. Did it get me far in the game? You betcha ass it did. Was it a fair edit? I felt I was running the game the last week on the island and had 100% of the jury votes behind me and I don't feel that was shown. Then again, it didn't matter — I didn't win anyway. So, yeah, they got me right.
What was it like coming back to regular society after being out there? Was there culture shock or an adjustment coming back?
The night I got home I fell into my wife's arms at midnight and cried. Hard. And it definitely shocked her. The game is the most demanding thing I've ever done, and that includes the NFL. I still have issues with wasting food and will clean everyone's plate at a restaurant, and am more comfortable than ever with being wet, cold, and dirty. I think it's what led me to work for a homeless shelter for two years immediately after. I knew first-hand what it was like to be disenfranchised and exposed. Care for the poor.
Was there ever a point either during the game or after you got back where you regretted going on the show?
While I was out there, my wife and I had a promise that at every sunset we would say a prayer for each other. She had an alert set on her phone for the Nicaraguan sunset and would know what I was seeing. On day 9, I remember sitting on the beach, watching the sun go down, and with tears in my eyes thinking this whole thing is unmanageable and horrible. The mosquitos had just tag-teamed with the flies and the crabs were coming out. Survivor was anti-Lego Movie — everything was awful. I never thought I would last another three weeks or that it would get easier. It did, somehow. Probably Chris Pratt.
Whom do you still talk, text, or email with the most from your season?
Being housemates, obviously Max and I talk every day about everything — media, news, relationships, work, reality TV, who sucks at social media, all of it. We keep our noses close to the ground and stay up on all the hot goss (our theoretical podcast would be lit). From my season, I talk with Sierra at least once a week — she's my best friend — and still regularly talk with Mike and Dan and Joe. Say what you want about the #Dirty30, but my cast is family. They know me and all my secrets — weaknesses and strengths.
Do you still watch Survivor and, if so, what’s your favorite season you were not on and why?
Wednesday nights are sacred and all facets of Survivor are still incredibly important. I've traveled to Fiji not once but twice and have visited all the islands where the show is played (including the sand spit!). I've seen the "Day X" machete carvings in the trees from previous seasons and have learned from the locals what can or can't be eaten. I have spearfished off all the Survivor island coasts, stayed overnight in the rain, and cooked the fish we caught over fire. Does it seem a bit excessive and strange? Trust me, at the time it was purposeful. And it was the closest thing to playing the game I'll probably ever get again. If I were a producer and watched my season, I wouldn't ask me back. But if I were a producer who knew me now and who knew what I know, I'd book me the first Fiji flight out post-Covid.
Who’s one player from another Survivor season you wish you could have played with or against and why?
I have relationships from almost every season of the show that stretch far beyond the game — and I share that only because the show and its casts have been so impactful to me. Like I said, I found my tribe of adventure seekers, riskers, thrillers, competitors, and they have been my wonderful community. It's strange that a reality TV show would give someone such a group of supportive people, but seeing as it has, I decided to just make lemonade.
If you could make one change to any aspect of Survivor, what would it be and why?
New locations, less advantages, yadda yadda. As a producer, I totally get why Jeff, Matt, et al., do what they do where they do it. I still love the show, even when they get it wrong. Honestly, I only want to see the best players play. I don't care if you look good in a swimsuit. Too many people beat out thousands and then get far in this game having no idea what they are doing. Sign me up for Survivor: Smart vs. Social vs. Sneaky every. single. time. Get rid of the Goats. Clap emoji.
Finally, would you play again if asked?
It doesn't matter. What matters is to vote on November 3. That's what matters.

Survivor Quarantine Questionnaire: Davie Rickenbacker on how the show 'changed my way of thinking'

With Survivor filming for seasons 41 and 42 indefinitely postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, EW is reaching back into the reality show's past. We sent a Survivor Quarantine Questionnaire to a batch of former players to fill out with their thoughts about their time on the show as well as updates on what they've been up to since. Each weekday, EW will post the answers from a different player.
Davie Rickenbacker did not win Survivor: David vs. Goliath. But the last-minute addition to the cast who made it all the way to sixth place before being voted out received something even better. No, not the $14,000 for international pop sensation Sia! But that was pretty cool. Davie got something else as a result of his time on the island: a new perspective. The self-described "Blerd" found himself a changed man after his experience, and changed for the better.
"Survivor changed me in ways I can never fully explain," says Davie. "I've become close friends with conservative Christians, feminists, people who I might have never met if I didn't take that leap of faith. I've been exposed to racist fans, I've been exposed to people on the spectrum, and I'm thankful for all of it. It's challenged my ways of thinking, which absolutely make me a better person. I know that I've had an impact on these people as well, and that's what growth and maturity is about for me."
The fan (and Sia) favorite shares some stories from the island — including things we did not see on TV — and more in his Quarantine Questionnaire.
Survivor
CREDIT: ROBERT VOETS/CBS VIA GETTY IMAGES ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: First off, give the update as to what you've been up to since appearing on Survivor.
DAVIE RICKENBACKER: Most know the story already, but for those that don't, I quit my job at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to go on the show. It took me quite some time, but eventually I was able to begin working for the organization again. I now work in a division that advocates for Native Americans and their public health, I'm currently developing a campaign to persuade communities within the Indian country to further promote mask wearing during the pandemic.
I've also been quite busy with my voice talent career, I've booked quite a few pay-to-play gigs but am far from where I would like to be. The pandemic has been good in allowing me time to fully continue to perfect my craft. Visit www.davierickenbacker.com to learn more…
This year has been an emotional roller coaster for everyone, Black people especially, from surviving in a pandemic and national crisis to the continuous fight for fair treatment in a society that doesn't seem to care for our well-being. I've just been trying to keep a level head, do what I can to support my people, and know that God has a plan for better days.
What is your proudest moment ever from playing Survivor?
My proudest moment isn't the #BrochachoBlindside, winning immunity, or even finding multiple idols. It has to be, without a doubt, catching a freaking octopus on day two. It might not seem like it, but on the island I was extremely introverted. I mean, you heard it yourself this was my first time outside of my career assimilating with people outside of my race. Catching that octopus allowed me to show my worth to the tribe, gave me confidence to build strong relationships, and, most importantly, reassurance that God would be with me every step of this journey.
What is your biggest regret from your Survivor experience?
I honestly regret not being able to get Gabby and Carl on the same page. I'm partly to blame because I didn't share my plans for the idol play with either of them, but changed my mind and told Carl at the very last second before Tribal. I probably should've told Gabby too. That night after Tribal, Carl gloated to everyone about the move, revealing all David men knew except for her. She rightfully felt left out of the loop which created paranoia within the David 5.
What's something that will blow fans' minds that happened out there in your season but never made it to TV?
Alec and I had a big back-and-forth at the idol nullifier Tribal. I don't even remember what it was about now, but I remember Dan chiming in and pissing me off entirely, but keeping my calm because I didn't want to give anything away for our move that night. When I went to the voting booth I let them HAVE it, I even remember saying "F THE POLICE!" I realize now that I was only projecting my frustrations with the way that some cops treat Black men in our country onto him, and that wasn't fair. Dan's a good cop as far as I know, so I'm glad it wasn't aired. But there are bad cops out there and that message is for them. If you rewatch the episode, you can see me mouthing it when they reveal who we all voted for at the episode's end. STOP KILLING US!
How do you feel about the edit you got on the show?
My edit was okay. In the beginning, it annoyed me for several reasons, I felt like they were making me the comic relief of the show at first without airing any of my close relationships or strategizing. But it got better with time — if you don't consider the merge episode, which shocked me completely because we found the steal-a-vote that day. In hindsight, I think they portrayed me pretty well, and even saved me in some regards. I guess you can't really count on the perfect edit unless you will the million dollars. Jeff should start calling that part of the prize.
What was it like coming back to regular society after being out there? Was there culture shock or an adjustment coming back?
Survivor changed me in ways I can never fully explain. I've become close friends with conservative Christians, feminists, people who I might have never met if I didn't take that leap of faith. I've been exposed to racist fans, I've been exposed to people on the spectrum, and I'm thankful for all of it. It's challenged my ways of thinking, which absolutely make me a better person. I know that I've had an impact on these people as well, and that's what growth and maturity is about for me.
Was there ever a point either during the game or after you got back where you regretted going on the show?
Naw, not for me, but I think that has a lot to do with my entire cast. Casting really did a good job finding people who weren't trash human beings just looking for 15 minutes of fame and a shot at a load of money. The people that I played with, at least for me, made my time out there memorable.
Whom do you still talk, text, or email with the most from your season?
Just last week I was in Nick's wedding, Kara, Alec, Carl, Elizabeth, and I had a great time reminiscing on our time on the island. With social media about, it's easy to stay in contact with everyone. The only people I don't keep in contact with are the ones that don't support Black lives mattering.
Do you still watch Survivor, and if so, what's your favorite season you were not on, and why?
Of course I still watch Survivor. My best friend was just on the last season. My favorite is probably Cambodia. It's the one I use to get new viewers to watch, which is weird because they don't already know the characters. It's a favorite because it wasn't filmed in Fiji. I miss when they went to different locations. Not to mention my Obama won.
Who's one player from another Survivor season you wish you could have played with or against, and why?
I would have loved to play with Woo, his energy was always the best. I modeled a lot of my positivity on the island from him. If you can find a way to make Survivor fun for yourself out there, then you won't be as miserable as they make things seem.
If you could make one change to any aspect of Survivor, what would it be, and why?
I would change it so that Survivor is not a microcosm of society. We know now more than ever that this country is not all it was hyped up to be in grade school. There is systemic racism, extreme biases, and loads of inequity in our great societies, so why not change that. Mix it up, give us a season of the same sex, all minorities, people who are chosen by the fans. We've been playing the game for 40 seasons as this "microcosm" based on U.S. statistics, but it seems to me if we have the chance to show people what the world could be, why not explore that?
Finally, would you play again if asked?
If I'm still broke when they ask, sure. No, but seriously, if I play Survivor again, I'd want a completely different experience from it. I hope to have my own family by then so I could experience what it's like for those husbands and wives, mothers and fathers who have had to leave loved ones behind. Maybe that fuels me in a way that couldn't motivate me my first go at it because I was only playing for myself and my dog.
